Delivered by Esh Construction, Alan Wood & Partners was delighted to assist with geo-environmental, civil and structural services for this challenging project.
The topography of the land has posed many challenges to the team, with the lower site lying 20 metres below the upper site. Extensive remediation and enabling works were undertaken with more than 30,000m³ of materials being excavated, crushed, screened and reused on site, creating a 60% reduction in carbon emissions. 90 metres of gabion retaining walls and a NAUE retaining slope have also been installed.
Our Geo-Environmental team liaised with Local Building Control to design a solution involving Rolling Dynamic Compaction combined with a site turnover to develop the northern 40% of the site which consisted of deep historically backfilled quarries which had previously been stated to be undevelopable.
