Engineering and Design Factors

The property is remote and difficult to access. The kiln is Grade II listed, hence all investigation and restoration work required Listed Building Consent.

Temporary work and the integrity of the remaining kiln had to be considered during the repair process. All materials had to be considered in relation to the original construction, future design life, and required consents.

Description of the Works

This development facilitated the restoration of the listed lime kiln structure in the sensitive landscape of the Peak District National Park, adjacent to the Tissington Trail, which was once part of the London and Western Railway route between Buxton and Ashbourne but is now a traffic-free trail for walkers and cyclists.
