The new 30m clear-spanning Highway Access Bridge and Access Road was created to connect Langsett Road North to a prestigious future 284 home development across the River Don, at Oughtibridge Mill, Sheffield.
Alan Wood & Partners conducted the structural design, development and detailing of the bridge, piled abutments and associated highway retaining walls, working with the main contractor from pre-commencement through to completion and handover to the end client. Due to the requirement for the new bridge structure and access road to be to an adoptable standard, all liaising with Sheffield City Council regarding the variations to the Approval In Principle and gaining of approvals were undertaken by Alan Wood & Partners.
As the new structures and access road were located within the former Oughtibridge Paper Mill site, remediation works, and additional ground testing were required as part of the redevelopment.
Steelwork/reinforced concrete design of bridge deck, abutments and retaining walls to LM1 and LM2 Eurocode traffic loads and vehicle impacts, Approval in Principles, Environment Agency Approvals, highway works including S278/S38 design and external works, liaising with local council and water authorities.
Alan Wood & Partners attended regular meetings with the main contractor, developer and council.
