New RNLI Lifeboat Station

Alan Wood and Partners

The project was to build a new RNLI lifeboat station suitable for the new Shannon Class lifeboat.

Engineering and Design Factors

Alan Wood & Partners were engaged to undertake the structural and civil design for the building. The building consisted of a steel frame with timber roof and floors. Externally a new slab and drainage was provided as an external wash down area for the lifeboat. The location of the site meant that coordination was required with the adjacent structures and services.

Description of the Works

Also undertaken as part of the works was a rebuild of part of the seawall to allow the promenade to be widened to ensure there is sufficient access for the lifeboat to be safely launched from the beach.
