North East Lincolnshire Council appointed Alan Wood & Partners (AWP) as the Marine Engineers for the water improvement works at the River Freshney in Grimsby.

AWP carried out sampling and testing of the dredged material on this project.

Description of the Works

More that 2,230 tonnes of silt were removed from the riverbed along with bikes, shopping trollies etc. Dredging this section of the riverbed has allowed the water to flow more freely and the channel depth is now around 1.8m. 

Established areas of vegetation has been maintained for the benefit of the wildlife in the area, recently a family of otters have been seen in the area.
