Alan Wood & Partners (AWP) were appointed by Sandburn York Ltd to provide the Civil and Structural design for a new luxury hotel located at Sandburn Hall Golf Club. The hotel consists of 40 bedrooms, entertainment foyers, extensive external landscaping and a new staff wing. The hotel is a significant addition to the estate which already included a wedding venue, restaurant, golf course and cabins.
The building consists of a traditional masonry structure supported on strip foundations, however, at the end of each wing there is a steel framed structure which provides vaulted ceilings and large glazed panels overlooking the landscaped gardens. The surface water is attenuated within a large basin which was modelled to ensure the aesthetics fitted the surroundings.
AWP were engaged to undertake full structural design for the substructure and superstructure, including detailed drawings, surface water and foul water drainage design including an 850m rising main, and full external works design and detailing for the access roads and car parks.
