Hull City Council / Esteem proposed a new primary school to replace the existing primary school, which was deemed no longer fit for purpose.
This three storey building offers a new sports / events hall, SEND department, staff offices, external play areas and three storeys of modern teaching spaces.
The structural design for the building consisted of a composite deck and steel frame construction, as was developed to maximise the free area on each elevation to make space for combined natural and mechanical ventilation louvres and windows to maximum the light reach into the floor plan.
Keeping the structure clear of all internal spaces as a result of the stepped façade was a challenge Alan Wood & Partners successfully overcame through the use of BIM and clash detection techniques, delivering a structure that works seamlessly with the Architecture throughout.
Alan Wood & Partners provided support on this project in the form of our Geotechnical, Civil and Structural specialisms to deliver a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ facility that is serving the community and will continue to do so for decades to come.
